Autumn Records, run by San Francisco deejay Tom Donahye, strikes paydirt with "C'mon and Swim," a dance song by Bobby Freeman that reaches #5.

Bob Dylan strode onstage at the Newport Festival with an electric guitar in hand and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band backing him up. He is booed off stage.

Freda Payne hits #3 with "Band of Gold".

Duran Duran hits #5 in the UK with "Girls On Film".

Motley Crue hits #12 with "Girls, Girls, Girls".

“Touch of Grey,” by the Grateful Dead, enters the Top Forty. It will peak at #9, putting the Dead in the Top Ten for the first (and last) time.
